Jamie Cox, DMSc, PA-C

Dr Cox has been a practicing clinical PA for 19 years with experience in cardiology, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, ICU medicine, Trauma, family practice, addiction medicine, and emergency medicine. She completed her DMSc at The University of Lynchburg with focused advanced clinical practice in family medicine and emergency medicine. She also attained her PA education certificate through the University of Lynchburg. She is originally from Davenport, Iowa. Dr Cox attended Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, for her undergraduate degree. She attended PA school at Methodist College (now University) in Fayetteville, NC, and graduated in 2005 with a MMS. She currently practices as an Emergency Medicine APP for WVU Medicine in a critical access hospital in a rural health area.

Her commitment to service is a significant part of her professional journey. She currently serves in the West Virginia National Guard as a Physician Associate. Her service in the US Army spans 19 years, during which she served as a combat medic and Medical Service Corps officer. Notable among her recent duties and tours is the provision of immediate medical care for Afghan Refugees in Kuwait during the Afghan Withdraw, as well as serving at the Texas Border, providing necessary care to our soldiers, and immediate emergency care to the transient displaced populations.

She and her family live in Elkins, WV. She has five children; with her two youngest daughters being 17 and 19. As a family, she enjoys all travel, rafting trips, kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking, camping, skiing, and food!

She had the honor of being published in JAAPA in April of 2022 with an article on the long-term effects of prenatal opioid exposure. She has served the West Virginia Association of PAs as an HOD delegate to AAPA for the last four years and is currently serving as the President-Elect. She is also a member of the Society of Army PAs. Dr Cox been the secretary for the Academy of Doctoral PAs for two years and looks forward to continuing her service as the treasurer.
